Fan of the Month: Sylvia
I've liked Lifehouse since I heard Hanging By a Moment on the radio in 2001, but I wasn't a real fan until August 2007. I had bought the first two albums and I loved them, but I wasn't paying attention when they released Lifehouse and Who We Are. When I heard First Time on the radio, I liked it so much I decided to look up who the band was. Oh, yeah, Lifehouse still exists, I said to myself. Then I searched YouTube for all the new songs from the last two albums, and I pretty much fell in love with every song I heard. It was so much to take in in just a few days, and the most impressive thing I realized was that the messages in the songs were consistent with everything I value in life. The same was true when I went back and remembered how much I loved their old stuff. But they had grown, and revealed so much more about who they are. Nothing expresses everything I love better than Lifehouse.
2. What got you started in the Lifehouse comics?
Well, I guess it all started with this one picture I drew of Lifehouse as the Simpsons. Lifehouse gave me so much creative energy and I couldn't stop drawing pictures of them and writing stories about them and stuff like that. When they posted the my Simpsons cartoon in their MySpace album, I got really excited and I wanted to give them more. And I had always wanted to make a comic strip, so I decided to channel all my Lifehouse-inspired creative energy to make this one comic strip, and it's been so much fun for me.
3. What is your fave. Lifehouse song and album?
My favorite album is the self-titled, Lifehouse, because it's so compassionate, it seems like it was written straight from the heart. My favorite song is All in All - it's such a reassuring song, but it doesn't promise anything to the listener that it can't give you. It's not for a romantic partner, not even reserved for a friend. It can be for anyone in the world. It's like Jason is reaching out directly to you and saying "It's okay."
4. What sets you apart from other Lifehouse fans?
I think I'm a lot like other devoted Lifehouse fans. I think most of the people who have a deep connection to the music do because our core values resonate with theirs, so I have a lot in common with the other fans I meet. I guess what sets me apart is mostly the fact that I draw comics about them.
